Medicare

People may be eligible for a Medicare rebate with an appropriate referral from your GP.  You will need to obtain a referral prior to your first consultation. If you attend without an appropriate referral you will not be able to claim a rebate and will be charged the relevant standard fee.

Many doctors require a longer session to make a referral to a psychologist under Medicare, so please let your GPs receptionist know the reason for your visit when you phone to make an appointment.

Diana is registered with Medicare to provide:

Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative: People with an assessment mental disorder can be referred by a GP for up to 10 sessions in a calendar year.  The Medicare rebate per session is $124.50.  People with a valid health care or pension card will be bulk billed.

Please note: A copy of the Mental Health Treatment Plan is not sufficient for a psychologist to provide services under the Better Access to Mental Health Care Initiative. You must present with a written referral by the referring practitioner failure to do so will mean that the Medicare rebate cannot be claimed.

An Old Cherokee Tale of Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’
